Marie Louise (Mary Lou) Robinson Andersen would have turned 84 the day after she died. Therefore, we can write Mary Lou Andersen, 83; even though her long-time friend Claire Jinks said to write MLA, 39, and best friend, 24. Born in Syracuse, New York, to Fillmore and Leonora Formel Robinson, she was predeceased by her parents, her former husband, Roy; her sister, Alma Steffens; her brother, Robert Robinson. Mary Lou was the youngest of five, and her surviving siblings say she was an adorable, beautiful, lovable pain in the rear.

Mary Lou’s early career included modeling in NYC for John Roberts Powers Agency as a photographic model. She remained fantastically photogenic until her final days. The next thirty years were filled with children and business as she and her former husband Roy Andersen established Roy’s Liquors and the Boozgeois Saloon as one of the longest lasting businesses in Fort Pierce. Her son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Debbie Andersen, continue that tradition.

In addition to the business, Mary Lou took care of numerous elderly friends during her busy schedule of working, playing tennis, entertaining, playing all kinds of card games, and volunteering as a Pink Lady at the hospital. Following a divorce, she entered nursing school at IRCC (with the help of her good friend Sue Taggart) and continued being the Good Samaritan she had always been. After working at several nursing homes in the area, Mary Lou retired to a life of grandchildren, bridge, rummy, Scrabble, tennis, Saturday ladies’ luncheons, friends, and family. She will be remembered as a most loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend.

Mary Lou is survived by her “perfect” son, Keith and daughter-in-law Debbie; her “know it all” daughter, Darcy Cooper and son-in-law Talbert; her nieces who were like daughters to her, Kristen Metzger (John Thompson) of Fort Pierce, and Karla (John) Kizer of Orlando; her grandest of grandchildren, Shae Petersen of Denver, Kirk Petersen of Vail, Kellan Andersen and fiancé Sarah Koenig of Pittsburgh, Hadley Andersen of Kailua, HA, and Karsten Andersen of Fort Pierce; her sister and wonderful care-giver, Pat Smith of Fort Pierce; her brother Don Robinson of Louisville; and her partner of twenty years, Dick Stebbins; and their dog, Ivar. Mary Lou was a fantastic mother and best friend, the favorite “gramma”, aunt, great-aunt, who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral Information

A reception will be held 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Monday, February 13, 2012, at Yates Funeral Home, Fort Pierce.
