Elmer L. Layton

Elmer L. Layton, 90, of Fort Pierce, Florida passed away July 20, 2011 at Treasure Coast Hospice. Mr. Layton was born in Highlands, New Jersey, moving to Fort Pierce from Highlands in 1992. He was a retired waterman and commercial fisherman. Mr. Layton was a veteran of WWII serving with the United States Army Air Corps. He was a member of American Legion, Post 143, in Highlands. He was a 40 year member of the Highlands Volunteer Fire Dept.
Survivors include his son, Leslie E. Layton of Fort Pierce; and two grandchildren, Thomas E. Layton and Laura L. Layton; as well as one great grandson on the way.
Mr. Layton is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Elizabeth Layton; son, Craig Layton; brother, Gilbert Layton; and 3 sisters, Dena Layton Parker, Jennie Taylor, Sarah Taylor,and Rosemary Beach.
Funeral Information
A private memorial service will be held under the direction of Yates Funeral Home and Crematory, Fort Pierce.
