Mrs. Jennie T. Alderman

February 12, 1926 - March 17, 2010

Jennie T. Alderman, 84, died March 17, 2010. She was born February 12, 1926, in Charlotte, North Carolina, the only daughter of Paul Erskin & Grace Woody Thompson. She grew up in Charlotte and graduated from Queens College in 1948. While at Queens she was a member of Phi Mue Sorority. She received post graduate training at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and was certified as a Medical Technologist. In 1960 she moved to Gainesville, Florida, where she was employed as a research assistant in the Microbiology Laboratory at the University of Florida Medical School. It was there that she met her husband, James E. alderman, who was then a student at the University of Florida College of Law. They were married in Gainesville on March 03, 1961. Upon his graduation later that year they moved the Fort Pierce where she lived the rest of her life, except for a time when she moved to Tallahassee with her husband while he served as a Justice of the Florida Supreme Court. They returned to Fort Pierce, in 1985 and built their home on the family cattle ranch in Okeechobee County. She was an active member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, a member of the Daughter of the King, Agape Chapter, a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood. Chapter A R, and a member of the Florida Cattlewomen’s Association. She was a spinner and a weaver and maintained her own flock of sheep. She is survived by her husband, James E. Alderman, her son, James Allen Alderman and his wife, Lee Ann, and her grandchildren, James Austin Alderman and Amber Leigh Alderman.

Funeral Information

Family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., Sunday, March 21, 2010 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 210 south Indian River Dr., Fort Pierce. A Holy Eucharist Service will be at 1:00 p.m., in the church. Burial will follow in White City Cemetery.
