Andre G. Thibout, 89, died on April 22, 2010 at St. Lucie Medical Center in Port St. Lucie, Florida. He was a resident of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Lancaster, Massachusetts, coming from Brooklyn, Connecticut where he lived and worked for 40 years. Andre was born on January 6, 1921 in Attigny, Ardennes, France to Georges and Henriette (Legand) Thibout. He and his wife immigrated to America in 1948. He was a charcutier by trade and, after coming to the U.S., was employed by Idle Wild Farms, Pomfret Center, Connecticut for 23 years as a plant manager and buyer. When the Germans occupied Andre’s home town in France during World War II, they sent him involuntarily to Hamburg, Germany where he was forced to work in a nearby submarine manufacturing facility. After 17 months laboring far from home under harsh conditions, Andre escaped. He made his way safely to occupied Paris where he joined the French underground and eluded recapture until the city was finally liberated Andre is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Madeleine (Bucheler) Thibout of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Lancaster, Massachusetts; daughter, Dominique and husband, Norman Faucher of Lancaster, Massachusetts; daughter, Evelyne and husband, David Battle of Suffield, Connecticut; sister, Madeleine Richard of Gloversville, New York; and grandchildren, Danielle Faucher of Lancaster, Massachusetts and Katherine Battle of Suffield, Connecticut. He was predeceased by his sister, Suzanne Faitrop, of Attigny, Ardennes, France. Andre was a hard-working, gentle soul who loved to help others and loved his family very much.
