Robert “Bob” Stewart Varn, 56, of Fort Pierce, Florida passed away Monday, June 18, 2012 in Fort Pierce as the result of an accident. He was born in Fort Pierce and has been a lifelong resident. Mr. Varn was a graduate of Indian River Academy, Fort Pierce and a graduate of Florida Southern University with a B.S. Degree in Horticulture. Bob was a citrus grower and was a partner with Varn Citrus of Fort Pierce. Mr. Varn was a lifelong member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church where he was a member of the Vestry, served as Jr. Warden and a school board member. He was head of acolytes and was in training to become an ordained Deacon. For the Episcopal Diocese, he was President of Southeast Deanery and a member of Diocesan Board, a member of the Nursing Home Team, bringing communion weekly to Lake Forest and Broadmoor nursing homes. He was a volunteer youth group leader for 25 years. Bob was a Board Member of the Backus Gallery and a Royal Palm Member of Heathcote Botanical Gardens. Other active interests include Mustard Seed, Restoration House, and Sarah’s Kitchen. He was a BBQ Cook for many events in the community. Hobbies include SCUBA diving and motorcycles. Survivors include his sister, Stephanie Varn Kite and her husband, Chester of Phoenix, Arizona; sister-in-law, Suzanne Brown Varn of Fort Pierce, Florida; eight nieces and nephews, Catherine Jean Loving, Pamela Suzanne Nolan, Myron M. Varn III, Donald Mustaine “Rusty” Varn, David Rhodes Varn, Stephanie V. Askeland, Stacey V. Arnold, and Sharon Varn; fifteen grand nephews and nieces, Trevor, Shelby, Samuel, Christian, Hannah, Lillian, Wesley, Adriana, Rachael, Heidi, Morgan, Christian, Stephanie, Randy, and Vanessa. Mr. Varn is preceded in death by his parents, Myron M. and Jean Farabee Varn; and two brothers, Samuel F. Varn and Myron “Mac” M. Varn Jr. Funeral InformationA Funeral Eucharist Service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Monday, July 2nd at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church with Rev. John Liebler, Rector, officiating. A reception will follow at Backus Gallery, 500 North Indian River Drive, Fort Pierce. Yates Funeral Home, Fort Pierce, is in charge of arrangements.
