Dorothy “Dickie” M. McGowan, 84, of Fort Pierce, Florida, died August 5, 2012 at a local hospital.

Mrs. McGowan was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, moving to Fort Pierce, fifteen years ago, from Winter Haven, Florida.

She was a graduate of Norfolk General School of Nursing, Norfolk, Virginia. Mrs. McGowan was a graduate of Florida State University, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She received a Master’s Degree in Nursing from Indiana University.

Mrs. McGowan worked at the Oakridge Nuclear Facility and was a college instructor at Polk Community College, Winter Haven.

Survivors include one daughter, Susan Rich McGowan Pollock, of Vero Beach, Florida; one son, J. Landis McGowan, of Stuart, Florida; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
