Jane Lou Virgin Burns

Jane Lou Virgin Burns, 73, of Port Saint Lucie, Florida passed peacefully on May 19, 2010.

Beloved wife, sister, mother to three cherished sons, grandmother of six and friend to many. She was born May 16, 1937 in Cameron, WV. Jane and her husband, Jack, were long time residents of Waynesburg, PA . They moved to Port St. Lucie, FL in 1999 and shared a 53-year marriage filled with joy and earthly rewards. Jane was active in many aspects of the First Baptist Church of Port St. Lucie until recently, Jack is currently a resident of The Palms.

Jane was a graduate of Waynesburg College, PA and taught school in Waynesburg for 25 years and upon moving to Topsail Beach, NC, taught for an additional ten years, bringing knowledge and her influence to many students. Her family was always the center of her life. Jane raised her boys, John, Vaughn and Donald, to be strong men, fiercely protecting them with her love. While residing in North Carolina, Jane was active in the First Baptist Church of Topsail Beach, as well as other community volunteer activities.

In addition to Jack and her sons, Jane is survived by sisters, Judy Weber (David) of Ft. Pierce, FL, Jerry Shepherd (Bill) of Cameron, WV; daughters-in-law, Pam Burns of Portsmouth, RI, E.J. Burns of Fredericksburg, VA and Elizabeth Burns of Califon, NJ; grandchildren include, LTJG Amanda Burns of San Diego, Matthew Burns of Portsmouth, RI, Christopher Burns of Port St. Lucie, Patrick Burns of Mooresville, NC, and Jeff and Tara Burns of Califon, NJ. Christopher’s and Patrick’s mother, Patricia Burns, resides in Ashville, NC.

Funeral Information

Family and friends will gather at the First Baptist Church of Port St. Lucie, 115 NE Solida Drive to celebrate Jane’s life on May 27, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jane’s name to Alzheimer’s Association at 3333 Forest Hill Blvd., Suite 101, West Palm Beach, FL 33406 or, Hospice of the Treasure Coast, at 1201 SE Indian St, Stuart, FL 34997.
