Herbert Grotheer, 80, of Stuart, Florida, died December 06, 2009 at Martin Memorial Medical Center, North in Stuart. Born in Queens, New York, he had been a resident of Stuart for 25 years, coming from Westbury, New York.

An Army Veteran, serving post World War II, he was an M.P. and served with the Berlin Airlift. He was a Heavy Equipment Operator with Nassau County, New York for thirty years, until retiring in 1983. He was a member of Amvets, Post #92 in Jensen Beach, Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge #1282 in Stuart, and Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge #1690 in Jensen Beach.

He was predeceased by his Wife of 53 years, Ann E. Grotheer, who died in 2006.

He is survived by one son, Arthur H. Grotheer of Stuart; three daughters, Christine C. Higgs, of Baltimore, Maryland, Janis A. Shannon of Bellport, New York, & Barbara M. Grotheer of Rising Sun, Maryland; ten grandchildren; & seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral Information

The Family will receive friends December 9th from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., at the Yates Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Saint Lucie Chapel.

Burial with Military Honors will be at the South Florida National VA Cemetery in lake Worth, FL.
